Let’s memorize the wisdom of Ing.Kwame Agyepong as a learning tool in schools
The Policy Analyst for the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, Mr. Abdallah Musah, has called on the public to study, memorize and inculcate the leadership words of Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) for good leadership and good governance, which is obviously, lacking in Ghana.
Mr. Musah, in a release, praised Ing. Agyepong for saying it as it is, in the interview he had on the political show, “Badwem Mpensenpensemu”, on Adom TV, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
Mr. Musah said, the Former NPP General Secretary plainness is uncommon in Ghana’s politics; saying truth and common sense is defined across political lines according to him puts the masses and future generations at deprivation whiles enriching the few elites.
Mr. Musah therefore advised citizens, media and government to pay heed to the words of wisdom of Ing. Agyepong ,in order to help develop the country.
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, speaking on the show, expressed worry about how the media place too much emphasis on petty talks and issues; and has advised the media to rise above petty talks and issues, and to instead focus on the big issues of the country.
He said, ”we’ve got to think about how to raise revenues to involve the control as a country, and the means of our revenue generation, that’s what we need to focus on and get attention for which areas the country is facing major situations with unemployment in the country”.
“There’s a population explosion of which we don’t talk about anymore. We don’t talk about family planning anymore in this country. It is a serious matter that we should be discussing; people should not have more than four children, it is not necessary”, he added.
He also stated that the government needs to start thinking about which sectors of the economy can absorb more of the youth in Ghana into productive employment.
On the issue of corruption, Ing. Agyepong mentioned Tema Harbour, saying, “The Tema harbour leaks like a basket, I think we are getting perhaps 20percent of what we should be able to get because of the corruption and the collusion and, I think recently, there have been certain reports”, he said.
He advised that as citizens, we need to begin to look at ourselves, in order to help develop our country, and that we need to create a coalition of the willing; a critical mass of Ghanaians who believe that public service is about serving the public, and not the other way round.
He further stated that a lot of afro-barometer surveys and the confident in the political architecture is dwindling, and that people don’t have confident in politics in the country anymore, adding that political leaders and the citizens as a whole, have misunderstood the concept of governance and party politics to sharing the National cake to themselves.
He therefore admonished leaders of the country not to be too celebratory when given a position, because, when that happens, it might make them lose focus of their assignment on rebuilding the country and restoring the cherished values that have collapsed.
He also mentioned that there are a lot of ministries being virtually the same, and it’s not giving the country any results, and that the president doesn’t know a lot of ministers in the country because of they are too many.
He again stated that politics in Ghana today is all about slash and burn of insults, so, those who can insult are the ones that are given the leadership positions.
“ A leader without the character traits of service, sacrifice and selflessness should never come close to politics, because the democracy that we are enjoying today didn’t come cheap, but came through the sacrifices from our forefathers, and some of us, even as young people, and the media must ensure that happens”, he stressed.
“Ghana is 65years, but the first 35yrs was very chaotic, talk of the coup d’états, and other things that happened , but , for the last 30yrs, by the grace of God, we now have a smooth democratic governance despite all the challenges we are facing as a country today”. In this world, if you don’t know your history, you can’t guide your forward match”. So, we have to learn from the journey that the country has travelled over the last 30yrs of constitutional democracy, before now’. Two parties have come to govern the nation, we, the NPP, were in opposition, and today, are in power, but one thing that remains constant is the state Ghana; the public service; and the civil service. Yes, political leadership should accept responsibility, but we have to look at ourselves as a people, as Ghanaians, and also the public services and the conduct of the public services”-Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; Former General Secretary of NPP.
