The president of the New Ghana Social Justice Forum (NGSJF), Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, has appealed to the president, Nana Akufo Addo, to compensate Awal Misbawu, who was shot in the leg by the military in line with Justice Kingsley Koomson’s Committee Recommendation.
Mr. Alhassan, made
this appeal to the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo, in a press conference
in Accra over the week.
According to the
NGSJF leader, even though government has compensated families of those who lost
their lives in the shooting incident at Ejura with GH¢250,000 each, he however
believes that the development defies logic, and difficult to comprehend.
He explained that
Awal Misbawu, whose leg was amputated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital
(KATH) following the military shooting hasn’t been compensated with lifelong
support.
Mr. Alhassan
explained further that, Awal is only 16years, and has difficult journey ahead
with such a severe walking deformity. Therefore, the GJSF’s president called on
related leaders to release Awal’s compensation in line with Justice Kingsley
Koomson’s committee recommendation.
Also, the NGSJF
group leader, requested that the Ghana armed forces should provide educational
scholarship to Awal Misbawu, and after, employ him into the military
organization.
‘’This is a national call to ensure some level of
justice for Awal who was previously conducting ‘pragia” motor business to
support his mother Mrs. Salamatu Mohammed’’,Mr Alhassan added.
