The President of the New Ghana Social Justice Forum (NGSJF), Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, has condemned The Damongo MP and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor for constructing and commissioning an astro-turf in a cheerful ceremony held at the Savanna Region.
In a write up to
the Minister, Mr. Alhassan told the minister not to be honoured with praises
from our dear gullible populace for putting up a synthetic grass, but
questioned the Damango legislator for not abiding the
established Section 11 of the Civil Service Law, 1993 (PNDCL 327),
which mandates the ministry to ensure the sustainable management and
utilization of the nation’s lands, forests and wildlife resources for socio-economic growth and development
‘’Planting grass
with the act of trimming and watering
would have created jobs for the community in an environmentally friendly
exercise.
‘’Importing
artificial grass or astro turfs and other items which can be produced locally,
put much pressure on the cedis against the dollar which no doubt explains the
reason why Ghana continues to head to IMF for bail out’’, he added.
He continued that,
blanketing our natural land with
artificial grass carpet kills the ecosystem for conservation for a greener,
healthier and more prosperous future for every Ghanaian, adding that the
unfortunate action contravenes The United Nation’s Sustainable Development
Goals to protect the earth’s environment and climate.
Mr. Alhassan,
reiterates why glossy football turfs should not be the priority of any leader
in Ghana in the face youthful unemployment.
He therefore
called on the minister as matter of urgency to uncover the land and plant grass
to serve the standard for greener Ghana.
‘’The new Ghana has researched about the growing trend of
artificial football turfs, observing how Ghanaian leaders such as President
Nana Akufo Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on records plant trees
in the morning and commission Astro turfs in the afternoon’’, he added.
